LETTER TO STAKEHOLDERS

April 28, 2003

Letter to Stakeholders:

Re: Atlantic Halibut (3NOPs4VWX5Zc)

In its recent report to the Minister on conservation requirements for groundfish stocks on the Scotian Shelf and in the Bay of Fundy, the Fisheries Resource Conservation Council (FRCC) did not provide advice for 2003/2004 on Atlantic halibut.

In its report, the FRCC said “…in consideration of the fact that the upcoming report from Fisheries Science is expected to include important information from the longline survey that was specifically designed for Atlantic Halibut, the Council has decided to defer its recommendations for 2003-2004 until early 2003. The Council intends to consult with stakeholders when the report from Fisheries Science is available.”

The FRCC will hold a consultation session on Atlantic halibut on Wednesday, May 21, at 7:00 pm, in the Regency Room of the Prince George Hotel in Halifax, NS. A presentation from DFO Science will be provided. Stakeholders with an interest in Atlantic halibut are invited to attend to make their views known to the FRCC.

Sincerely,

Fred Woodman ,
Chairman
