LETTER TO STAKEHOLDERS

November 7, 2003

Letter to Stakeholders:

The Fisheries Resource Conservation Council (FRCC) will hold public consultations this fall to gather information on groundfish stocks and in particular information regarding Sub-Area 3Ps. This information will assist the Council in making recommendations to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans for conservation requirements for 2004/2005.

The meetings will be held in the following locations:

  • November 25 - Harbour Breton at the Lion’s Club (9:00 am)
  • November 26 - Sunnyside at the Lion’s Club (11:00 am)

Scientists from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans will provide new scientific advice on 3Ps Cod stocks.

During these meetings, the FRCC will seek the views of stakeholders regarding all of the stocks in preparation for the provision of advice to the Minister in January 2004.

The FRCC is seeking comments on all matters pertaining to the conservation of groundfish stocks in these areas. The following questions are provided as examples of information the Council is seeking:

  • Do you perceive a problem with groundfish conservation in sub-area 3Ps or in particular zones within this area?
  • What additional measure, if any, would you suggest be considered to ensure adequate conservation of the resource?
  • Have you noted a trend in catch rates or size and condition of fish that would indicate a change or conservation concern?

Stakeholders are encouraged to make public presentations at the meetings or provide a written brief to the FRCC at P.O. Box 2001, Station D, Ottawa, ON K1P 5W3, fax (613) 998-1146, internet www.frcc-ccrh.ca

We look forward to hearing your views and hope you will participate fully.

Yours truly,

Jean Guy d’Entremont ,
Chairman
